(San Antonio)- The 2nd Annual Football University National Championship is under way here in San Antonio, Texas as six out of eight teams arrived and registered to begin to prepare for Friday’s final four match ups.  Two grade divisions will each field two national semifinals at 7th and 8th grade.  The winner’s will advance to Sunday’s National Championship game held in the Alamo Dome.

The 7th graders will play at 11:00 a.m. Central Standard Time and the 8th grade championship will be played at 4:30 p.m. CST.  Sandwiched in between those two games will be the Eastbay Youth All-American Games for the 7th and 8th grades.

Orange County’s 7th Graders Arrive

In the 7th grade, two teams look very strong and will face off Friday at 2 p.m.  Team Maryland will play South Florida and both teams are very dominant.  Maryland features a quarterback that is compared to Robert Griffin III of the Washington Redskins.  South Florida has all around team speed.

In the other semi-final, Team Orange County (Southern California) will face Team Northwest Louisiana, a team predominately made up of kids from Shreveport.  Both teams have solid offenses and defenses that don’t like to give up points.  Orange County likes the spread the ball around with their wide outs and very strong quarterback and NW Louisiana likes to pound the ball up and down the field and rely on defense to win games.  This should be a tightly contested battle.

In the 8th grade division, the favorite has to be Team Georgia, who features one of the most talented youth football players in the country, DeAngelo Gibbs, a wide receiver from Covington, with NFL bloodlines.  Georgia has speed and size at every position and totally blew away their competition in the regional rounds before making it to Texas.   They will get a stiff test from Team Massachusetts, the only two time final four participant in FBU’s brief two year history.  They beat a very talented Maryland team in the regional finals, only giving up a touchdown.  With their experience having played in last year’s final four, they could be very dangerous, even when considered a large underdog.

On the other side of the 8th grade bracket is the surprising Colorado team and Team St. Louis.  Both teams have great talent and coaching that sets them apart.  They were surprise participants in this year’s final four but look to put their respective teams on the map.  St. Louis has a great passing game featuring a very capable wide out and Colorado is a balanced run and pass offense with a stout defense.
