7TH GRADE FUTURE STARS FINAL: FL 27-8 over GA

Bradenton, FL–Tyler March and James Cook from Florida led team Florida to a resounding 27-8 victory over a very talented Georgia team Saturday at IMG Academy during the Future Stars Florida vs. Georgia class of 2019 All-star game.  A late touchdown by running back Willie Davis IV, sealed the win for team Florida.

Head coach Char-ron Dorsey, a former Florida State Seminole and Dallas Cowboy, described the win as fulfilling after being counted out before the game began because of the size difference between his smaller Florida team and the massive Georgia squad.  He attributed a lot of that to the leadership of his starting quarterback.

“He made great plays, he had some good backs…he was a leader the whole time that he was in there,” said Dorsey of his starting quarterback Daniel Richardson.

Of Cook, who is current freshman Dalvin Cook’s younger brother, Dorsey said the bloodlines proved to work today.

“He’s got a little bit of that juice, that Seminole juice,” Dorsey said of the younger Cook who’s brother should see significant time this year at running back.

The younger Cook, James, was the game’s MVP.

Coach Mike Holloway, the defensive coordinator for Florida was clear about what his game plan was, limiting Georgia to one score talking after the game.

“We wanted to simplify the game plan for the kids so they could just really worry about playing with their hair on fire.  We knew that we were going to have to rotate a lot because Georgia had a lot of kids so we did what we wanted to do.”

In an action packed first quarter, the 7th grade, class of 2019 Future Stars Georgia vs. Florida game got off to a great start.  After a near muffed kickoff, team Georgia recovered the ball and began their first drive.  After only two plays, James Cook from South Florida forced a fumble and recovered it racing 25 yards to the two yard line.  Two plays later Cook finished his own work and scampered in putting Florida up 7-0.

Then Georgia’s defense took over and forced a fumble on a bad snap exchange from Florida quarterbackDaniel Richardson and his back.  They picked up the ball and launched the Jeremy Smith show.  Smith, from Savannah Country Day School in Georgia then was featured on a drive that saw him score on a 15 yard rush and also punched in a 2-point conversion.

Smith looked the best all first half among the Georgia offense.

But Florida’s defense found a way to stop him, if only momentarily.  During substitutions of other packages, Florida’s defense also lead by Cook who is playing outside linebacker was able to contain Georgia’s running game and the defensive backfield made big hits causing a Georgia fumble.

That put Daniel Richardson in a position to lead his team down the field and then hand off to Cook.  He raced 35-yards for his second score of the game putting Florida up 14-8.  Cook, the younger brother of Florida State freshman Dalvin Cook, is living up to his last name after only one half of play.
