Plantation, FL– After a sloppy first half, nationally ranked American Heritage (Plantation) and head coach Patrick Surtain, regrouped and scored 21 straight points in the second half to roll past Miami Norland High Friday.

During the first half, the only scoring came from the legs of American Heritage’s kicker Zack Thompson, who was 1-3 on the night on field goal attempts.
Early in the third quarter, after a great offensive series by Norland that advanced the ball to the Heritage 20 yard line, defensive back Tyson Campbell stripped Miami Norland’s ball carrier and Heritage came up with the fumble.
The Patriots then marched down the field and a double reverse run by Anthony Schwartz provided the first touchdown score for American Heritage.

On the very next drive, a 70-yard strike from quarterback Jason Brown to senior wide out Matt Solomon pushed the lead to 17-0. Brown had trouble connecting on deep passes the entire first half. But in the second half, he got rolling. After hitting Solomon deep, he connected with Laress Nelson for a 65-yard catch and run. Nelson alluded several defenders on his way to the end zone putting the Patriots up 24-0 in the fourth quarter.
The game was effectively out of reach when Norland added a late score on a quarterback run by Alec Carr on Hertiage’s second team defense. The final score was 24-6 after the Vikings errant snap on the point after turned into a failed attempt.

Coming into the game, Norland was a team that was riding high after a near upset of Miami Central just one week before. The Vikings seemed to have a renewed confidence and for a half, it seemed like their second consecutive nationally ranked foe would get a tough game from them. But in the second half, American Hertiage’s quarterback Jason Brown who’s is committed to Harvard, begin to connect down field on long passes. That effectively put the game out of reach.
