(Brevard County, FL) – The Palm Bay Rockets (Midget 170lbs) are East Coast Conference Champions again for the 2nd time. The Palm Bay Rockets faced off with West Volusia Saturday and won 32-6. The Rockets played a great game at all angles. Kaleb Dempsey connected with William Champion for a 35 yard catch while Sedric King’s 20 yard touchdown run could not be denied. Kywan Smith returned an 85 yard kick and later rushed in for 30 yards. Hard running by Derrick Taylor and a 35 yard touchdown pass to Antwone Sims by quarterback Kaleb Dempsey added to the Rockets stellar offensive plays. The Rockets defense held strong and had three interceptions by J.R. Ried, Cordeau Lewis and Rasheed Leftridge.
“Offensive line was on point tonight. Opening holes and pass protection. “ Head Coach Chris Hampson explains, “We also had great defensive plays by Vino Thomas, Trey Reid, Johnny Frances, Demtriaus Harris and Josh Boone. I’m very proud of the team only allowing 6 points all season going through the ECC conference. But we still have a lot of work to do because we don’t want to fall short this year. This year’s motto is ‘One Team, One Goal, One Dream’ and we plan on coming through with that!”
When asked how his team came up with their motto, Coach Hampson continued.
“No one thought this team could play as one this season so they are out to prove everyone wrong so they came up with the motto ‘One Team, One Goal, One Dream’ and they have stuck by that motto all season long!”
Although they’ve just won the ECC Championship title, the Palm Bay Rockets are not done in their quest to compete at the 2012 Pop Warner Super Bowl and National Cheer & Dance Championships that will take place from Saturday, December 1st through Saturday, December 8th at ESPN Wide World of Sports™ Complex.
The Rockets will face the Manatee Wildcats from the Foundation of Youth Development (FYD) based out of the Tampa Bay region. The match-up will take place at Heritage High School in Palm Bay this Saturday at 4:00pm.
