Another great weekend has passed in Southern California. On Saturday January 24th I had the chance to make it out to Damien High School. One of few well know private all boys schools in the Inland Empire, Damien hosted their first annual Youth Academy 1 (football camp). I had the opportunity to meet with Damien Head Coach, Mark Paredes. Coach Paredes in his second year at Damien had a positive energy on the hot sunny day expressing his gratitude to all of his staff for their help with the youth. The day was broken up into a morning and afternoon camp. The morning camp began at 10a.m to 12p.m for 4th through 6th grade. The afternoon camp continued with 7th and 8th graders beginning at 2p.m and ending at 4p.m. The camp was highlighted by football instruction from coaches on the high school level, coaching position drills and guest speakers. Coach Paredes in our interview spoke most about how much fun the coaches were having working with the younger players who might become future Spartans. If you missed the first camp, there will be a second camp in June that will follow the same format. For more information visit Damien High Schools website for accurate date and time of that event.
