Drew Phillips: Thursday Florida High School State Championship QB Preview

Orlando, FL– The stage is set for the Florida High School Football State Championships at Camping World Stadium, beginning this Thursday.  Football Hotbed’s National Director for Quarterbacks and the Future 4, Drew Phillips, has broken down the film of the participants in Thursday’s state finals.  Here’s a preview.

1A Preview:
Baker QB Kalee Ciurleo – The Junior QB from Baker Florida is a dual threat in every sense of the word. Not only does he play QB, but you can also find him lining up at wide out and on defense. Combining for 1500+ yards and 24 TD’s this season Kalee does a good job of extended plays, keeping his eyes downfield, and making something happen when nothing is there. For Baker to have success on Thursday, Kalee must make plays with his legs.

Pahokee QB Tyrone Smith – The Blue Devils are led by their Senior QB Tyrone Smith. Standing at 6’4 Tyrone passes the eye ball test. Tyrone isn’t afraid to stand in the pocket and deliver his throws; he looks extremely comfortable. Pahokee’s offense works the best when the run is successful. If they can get the run game established early, expect them to start taking their chances down the field off the play action fake.

4A Preview:
Cocoa QB Bruce Judson – It wasn’t an easy road to Orlando for Cocoa High School, having to go through Jones (Orlando) and Booker T (Miami). Loaded with talent and led by Bruce Judson Cocoa looks to add another state title to their resume. The Cocoa offense is built by balance. Fifteen different players have run the ball for them this year. Judson also adds to this attack rushing over 700 yards and 9 touchdowns. Look for Cocoa to keep Bolles off balance by getting Judson involved in the running game early.

Bolles QB Mac Jones – The Pro-Style QB from Bolles is one of the top QB’s in the state of Florida for the class of 2017 and is committed to play for the University of Alabama. Watch Mac play and you’ll see why he is one of the best Quarterbacks in the state. He has great movement and footwork in the pocket, he does are great job of selling his fakes off play action, and the ball explodes out of his hands. Mac is a great distributor of the ball, knowing when to be risky, and when to take what the defense gives.
