Pamona, CA– One of Southern California’s best programs, the Inland Empire Ducks, better know as I.E. has produced some amazing talent. Probably most notable among those on a national level is Bishop Gorman High School (Las Vegas) star quarterback Tate Martell. The program typically has a very strong 14U program producing national recruits like Martell and J. T. Daniels of Mater Dei high school. But latey, the younger ages have developed.
AYF Coach of the Year from 2014, Keefe Matheny has paved the way over the years creating a youth football juggernaut that keeps collecting hardware. The winning tradition continued this season as the 2016 11U Yellow, led by Eli Vega won the National Youth Football Championship Thanksgiving weekend.
The tournament was played in Las Vegas, Nevada. After defeating the Camarillo, California Cougars 37-0 in the 1st round, the team overcame a ferocious Aurora, Colorado Cougars team in the championship 14-7.
The wins were spearheaded by a dominate front line led by the “Twin Towers” Kaho Tuihalamaka and Felipe Moala. They were aided by speedsters Ajon Bryant and D.J. Overstreet creating a track meet on turf. Offensive Coordinator Andre Johnson lit up the score board and Defensive Coordinator Lamar Washington refused to give up a single touchdown by the opposing offenses all tournament long.
A well-deserved break the team will begin preparation to win a championship in the increasingly popular 7-on-7 circuit. Keep an eye on this group of Ducks as they make a name for themselves and add to the overall legacy in the “Empire.”
