Add another notch in the belt of “Tight End U”.
It was announced Tuesday that University of Miami senior tight end Christopher Herndon IV was added to the preseason watch list for the Mackey Award, honoring the nation’s top tight end.
Herndon’s addition to an award watch list comes on the heels of UM having three other Hurricanes added to preseason award watch lists on Monday.
The 6-foot-4, 251-pound Herndon is set to be the Canes’ No. 1 tight end in 2017. Having been more of a complementary piece in his first three seasons, Herndon should see a bump in his production – 46 receptions for 571 yards and three touchdowns – as the starter.
Though Miami has had more than its fair share of tight ends that shined during their time in Coral Gables as well as at the pro level, the school has only had one player win the Mackey Award. Kellen Winslow II won the award in 2003 when he caught 60 passes for 605 yards.
