Fort Lauderdale, FL – The Football Hotbed 15u Seven on Seven championship ended in dramatic fashion as Florida Fire defeated South Florida Air Raid 28-22.  Middle schoolers Taron Dickens, commonly known as Tyger and Jullian Lewis connected on an out route to clinch the third championship of the season for Florida Fire at Joseph C. Carter Park in Fort Lauderdale.

“I know who I am going to go to when it’s money time,” said Tyger.   “I just went to him and he was there to make the catch.”

This was a tight matchup between the two squads from South Florida who both went undefeated in pool play.  It was a back and forth battle as every play was vital to the outcome. Miami Hurricanes commit and defensive MVP James Williams, picked off QB Peter Zamora which seemed to end South Florida Air Raids chances at a title.  The interception however was overturned by a holding penalty.  Air Raid would capitalize when Zamora connected with Fredrick Eaford from Deerfield Beach for a touchdown pass.  Eaford, who would earn the offensive MVP, then somehow scored the two point conversion by diving and catching a deflected pass.  This game had all the makings of the last team who had possession would indeed win this one.  The catch by Lewis broke the 22-22 tie and as Florida Fire scored on the final play as time expired.  Florida Fire had a disappointing end to last weeks tournament at the Battle of South Florida in Miramar as they were eliminated before the semifinals.

“We wanted it more,” said Dickens.  “We wanted to prove that we could bounce back from last week.”

The rest of the tournament participants were Bucs Elite, South Florida Reign, Strong Arm and Chamber Elite.  South Florida Air Raid was coming off of a championship win last weekend and fell just short of making it back to back.

Other players playing well on this day were Shamar Gonzalez (Stoneman Douglas) of South Florid Reign, Sebastian Stein (Cypress Bay) of Chamber Elite and Coleman Bennett (Cardinal Gibbons) of South Florida Air Raid.  Florida Fire will play their next tournament in the summer as many of the athletes now prepare for Spring Football.
