Football Hotbed 2018 Underclassmen Showcase Featured The Strong and The Fast

Fort Lauderdale, FL – Putting in work on a Saturday is the norm for young athletes looking take their ability to the next level.  The Football Hotbed Underclassmen Showcase offers a platform for young athletes to improve their game, showcase their talent and measure their skills against their opponents and teammates.  The camp featured players from the 2020 and 2021 recruiting cycles.

Brian Brewton, WR, St. Thomas Aquinas, took home the honor of ‘Fastest Man’ recording the fastest time at camp running a 4.58.  After recording the fastest time on laser, he was able to edge nine others in a 40-yard race.  The slot receiver will be going into his junior year and is just another weapon for the Raiders to utilize in pursuit of a ninth state championship.

“Track workouts really help with the forty time,” said Brewton.  “That wasn’t my fastest time, I ran a 4.48 before. We have enough speed at St. Thomas to win state.”  

Brewton also runs track in the 100m, 200m and 400m.

 

Fastest 40 times

There was no shortage of lightning quick receivers on the home field of Cardinal Gibbons High School.  Rounding out the top five was Philip Bangura, WR, Gateway, (4.62), Kevin Ross, WR, Miramar, (4.76), Robert Floyd, WR, Blanche Ely (4.77) and Troy Stellato, WR, Cardinal Gibbons (4.69).

 

“If you don’t put in work you won’t get the most out of your game,” said Stellato.  “I try to work on everything. Lifting, footwork, schoolwork, routes, one on ones. I try to do everything I can do to improve my craft.”

Stellato, who is also a member of seven on seven squad South Florida Air Raid, will add to a loaded Cardinal Gibbons squad that should contend for the 5A championship this fall.  

Also running in the 4.8s was Travis Smith, LB, St. Lucie West Centennial (4.8), Gregory Janvier, WR, Calvary Christian, (4.86), Jake Harrington, WR, Cardinal Gibbons, Kemani Brown, QB, Miami Northwestern (4.88), C’quan Janpierre, RB, Fort Lauderdale (4.85) and Joshua Glaze, LB, Plantation (4.8).

Standouts

Stealing the show today was big sophomore offensive lineman and Miami Hurricanes commit Laurence Seymour, Miami Central.  Seymour has a quick first step at 6’2,” 300 pounds.  His quickness sets you up for his strength and you could find yourself on the ground very quickly.  

Anthony Davis, WR, Wekiva at 6’1,” 196 pounds, the athletic receiver caught balls over shorter receivers with ease.  This 2021 receiver out of Orlando could start

Christopher Gibert, WR, Columbus is one of sharpest route runners amongst underclassmen in South Florida.  The 2021 receiver is just scratching the surface of what he can be.

Kevin Ross, WR, Miramar The 2020 former American Heritage receiver consistently got open in one on one drills often making easy catches in open space.

Corde St. Louis, CB, Cardinal Gibbons has great balance and is always in control.  Great ball skills and will only get better.

Robert Floyd, WR, Blanche Ely excellent body control and is able start and stop with precision and is able go get the ball when lofted in the air.

Football Hotbed also helps to develop quarterbacks in their Future 4 Camp Saturday.  Phillips QB Academy under the guidance of Drew Phillips works on mechanics, arm strength and footwork with the young gunslingers.

These quarterbacks had the strongest arms when were the most accurate today:

Brody Palhegyi, Cardinal Gibbons, Edwin Rhodes, American Heritage, Kemani Brown, Miami Northwestern, Virgil Marshall, Rockledge and Jaramaya Olivares, Jupiter.

Also performing well at camp today: Jake Harrington, WR, Cardinal Gibbons, Najeh Fisher, DB, Hialeah Miami Lakes, Travis Smith, LB, St. Lucie West Centennial, Joshua Benjamin, LB, Coral Springs, Eugene Louis-Jacques, LB, Cypress Bay, Lamah Jackson, TE, North Miami Beach and Ryan Zimmerman, DE, Pinecrest who was the best DL at the camp.

 

St. Thomas Aquinas will be holding Youth Football Camps next week and July 13-14 on their campus with Head Coach Roger Harriott.
