Deerfield Beach, FL – The 2018 season kicked off Thursday with preseason games all across the state of Florida.  Coaches get to see what they have with their teams and access their depth for the upcoming season.  Deerfield Beach is one of the favorites to win the 8A state championship in the largest class in Florida.  Tonight they clearly demonstrated why they are one of the favorites to win in it all in 2018.  They completely shutdown Stranahan 40-0 on their home field and completely overwhelmed their opponent.

After a disappointing loss in the playoffs last year to upstart Western (Davie), the ‘Beach Boys’ are extremely focused on finishing their season as champions in Orlando.

“We work like we lost to Western last night,” Head Coach Jevon Glenn.

Coach Glenn has his kids focused on another championship run.  Tonight they were absolutely dominant on both sides of the ball.  On offense, dual threat quarterback DeRohn King showed what he can do in the open field making several defenders miss.

The 2020 field general connected with several receivers on the night including 2020 Deajuan McDougle on two touchdown passes.  King would also score winning a race for the corner on a two-point conversion and additionally found 2019 receiver Donte Banton at the back of the end zone for another two-point conversion.  King would earn MVP honors in a game that he did not play in the second half.

He found Oklahoma commit Jaylan Knighton on a toss in the flat on their first scoring drive.  Knighton is a strong runner who is tough to bring down.  He dragged defenders on several occasions earning tough yardage.

“I’m believing in my team and we’re working together,” said Oklahoma commit Jaylan Knighton.  “We’re improving practice by practice every second of the day we’re working.”

On defense, the Beach Boys lived in Stranahan’s backfield.  The Dragons simply did not have the speed and strength to compete with Deerfield on this night.  The Bucks will take on 3A state champion Chaminade-Madonna next week Friday in the official first game of the season for both teams.
