Miami, FL – Going into the third week of this young high school football season, Friday’s match-up at Traz Powell Stadium was suppose to be one of the more intriguing ones of the weekend.  This game was anything but.  Miami Carol City overwhelmed Columbus (Miami) from the opening kickoff to the final whistle in a 35-0 route.  Columbus defeated defending 6A state champion Miami Northwestern last week 23-14 and came into this game confident that they could compete with 6A contender Carol City.  The Chiefs of Dade County built the thirty-five point deficit at halftime as the game assumed a running clock for the remainder of the contest.  The win solidified Carol City as not only the best team in Dade County and Florida, but many around the nation should start to believe that the Chiefs are among the best in the nation.

“With out a doubt [we are the best team in the country],” said Head Coach Benedict Hyppolite.  “We just want to take it one game at a time.  Together we can get the job done and I’m thankful to be in this position that I’m in right now.”

Carol City is already a traditional power in South Florida as they are just two years removed from claiming a 6A state title and seem destined to capture another championship in two out of the last three years.  They obtained a number of transfers from several schools in South Florida including 2019 quarterback Daniel Richardson from Miami Booker T. Washington.

Richardson commands a no-huddle offense that the Explorers could not contain.  He finished the game with three total touchdowns.  Two in the air to his receiver Thaiu Jones-Bell and one on the ground.

One of the more explosive plays of the night was when receiver Leonard Floyd caught a lateral ball and threw a perfect pass to Amari Johnson for a touchdown.  The Carol City defense suffocated the offense of Columbus as seniors Malcom Ray and Denzel Daxon were absolute monsters in the trenches.  The Chiefs limited the carries of senior running back sensation Nay’Quan Wright who returned this season from a season ending knee injury.  He had two carries on the night, totaled 50 yards and was able to break one for a touchdown.  Getting a bulk of the carries was Katravius Geter who broke some nice runs for his team.

“It’s not a sprint it’s a marathon,” said Coach Hyppolite.  “Championship programs understand it’s a long race.  The job is not done.”

Miami Carol City will continue their quest toward an undefeated season next week against Miami Norland at Traz Powell Stadium.  Columbus gets Booker T. Washington next week.
