The Football Hotbed Exposure Showcase train rolls on to Spartanburg, South Carolina this weekend where football players can put in some much-needed work in this unconventional off-season. Many young football players want the opportunity to play football and Football Hotbed provides the platform in these uncertain times.
The quarterbacks dominate the field once again as some underrated prospects look to build some notoriety. Do not sleep on the skills positions as there is no shortage of playmakers. The combine kicks off Friday with combine type drills to see how the participants measure up. Coaches then guide these young athletes at perfecting their craft so the players can take their talents to the next level, and of course there will be opportunities to shine in one-on-one drills. Here’s a look at some of the top prospects in the talent pool.
Quarterbacks
Hayden Velasquez (Wedgefield, SC) 2021
The senior displays impeccable accuracy and has great footwork in the pocket. He knifes through the defense with accurate throws and can scramble for first downs if needed. The 6’1” 200-pound lefty prospect throws a good ball on the run and looks really comfortable on the rollout. The significantly underrated Velasquez makes all the throws and checks all the boxes and would benefit from a strong senior season.

Altman finds the open man early in the pocket and is able to throw his guys open for big gainers. The quarterback has above-average accuracy on a variety of throws and can throw a dart across the middle if needed.

Landon Sauers (Anderson, SC) 2021
Sauers is a straight-up athlete that can do it all. The senior excels at tight end, linebacker as well as quarterback. The kid has great speed and acceleration and once he gets moving he is tough to bring down. His Hudl has him listed at 6’4” 215 with a 4.7 40-yard dash time and his season highlights do not doubt those numbers one bit. Sauers also has a strong arm as he rifles the ball into his receivers’ hand. It will be interesting what we see from him in Spartanburg because it seems as if there is nothing the senior cannot do.

Skill Positions (RB, WR, LB, DB)
Kylen Austin WR (Baltimore, MD)
The senior from Maryland is fun to watch. He has a great stutter step at the line and can put his foot in the ground to get upfield. He can “Moss” defenders on long balls if they are not careful and has the ability to break free on short passes. Austin is dangerous on the inside and outside and should be accounted for at all times or pay the price.
