Western Upends Johns Creek (GA) in Broward Showcase

Davie Fl – Friday nights lights are back! On a humid night in South Florida; Western High School (Davie FL) hosted John Creek High School (GA) for the second game of a new annual event. The Broward County National High School showcase. Which has some of Broward County best face off against some of the most highly espy 300 teams in the nation.

In this much anticipated battle, Western left nothing to imagination, putting on a dominant performance in front of a sold out crowd.  The Western (Wildcats) started the night with 3 penalties on its first drive and that would be a pattern throughout the game.

This is common at the start of a season, getting the  growing pains out early. Even though Western offense was penalty ridden, that did not stop them from putting on an air raid. Scoring on every drive in the first half Western offense could not be stopped and John Creeks defense did very little to slow it down in the 1st half.

4 year starter and star QB, Colin Hurst would lead by example not only with his arm but legs when needed. Posting stats such as 331 total yards (286) passing (45) rushing. Hurst would throw 225 yards and 3 TDs in the first half. Earring him player of the game honors.

Other standout performers on the offensive side are; Santana Fleming Sr. wide receiver – 110 receiving yards and a TD and Jr running back Matthew Wilson would have 11 carries for 65 yrds.

On the defensive side of the ball Western looked fast. The D-line was dominant in not only stopping the run game but getting after the passer. John Creek Jr QB Micheal McClellan had trouble getting any time to deliver to his targets. The Cougars did manage to score 2 TDs in the second half  and stop the wild cats from scoring anymore; after first year head coach Drew Conell made some adjustment.

Western would go on to win the game 33-12, looking like the playoff team they were. Western High School will look to improve on their winning ways after a bye week, when they face off with Coconut Creek (Cougars).
