The Chaminade-Madonna Lions are on top of the Florida 3A Region 4 standings heading into the state playoffs that begin next week. Their only two losses were to nationally ranked American Heritage (Plantation) and Miami Central. Since those tough breaks earlier in the season, they have rattled off six straight victories and beaten good teams to get there. They dismantled Booker T. Washington winning 35-20 and beat previously unbeaten University School on Friday 33-14 to finish the season at 7-2.
Second year head coach Dameon Jones, who got the job in August last year, seems headed right back to the 3A state championship. This year, he won’t have to worry about Jacksonville Trinity (they’re now in 5A). He’s looking to propel his Lions back to their championship ways of the late 90s and early 2000s. Because that’s exactly what he was brought to Chaminade to do.
