Coach G’s Season in Review: Florida Youth Football League

The 2017 Florida Youth Football League (FYFL) regular season has come to an end.  To go undefeated and unscathed is an awesome feat given the amount of talent throughout the league.  Seven (7) teams accomplished that feat in impressive fashion this season.

7U

The Carol City Chiefs, Bruce and the gang finished their very impressive 10 win season without a blemish in the loss column as they defeated the Bulls on Friday night in a 6-0 overtime battle. “TD Tyler” would carried the ball 30 times, contributing to his team’s perfect season. Lions, Rattlers, Ravens, and Bulls, all failed at stopping the Chiefs 7U from celebrating perfection! After a brief conversation with head coach Pearson Sutton yesterday, the Chiefs are very confident going into the playoffs.

8U

After back and forth all year with their nemesis the Carol City Chiefs, the Deerfield Beach Packer-Rattlers find themselves at the top of the 8U mountain (10-0) going into the playoffs. But having only faced 1 of the top 3 teams at the age division this regular season affect the Rattlers in the playoffs? That’s left to be seen. Nevertheless, only giving up six points as a team is impressive for an entire season.

9U

Got a chance to “just chill” and relax as I have several times this season with the top 9U team in the land, Carol City Chiefs, after they made easy work of the Gwen Cherry Bulls. Team Manager Hunnit Freeman insisted that I only speak about their hospitality and how they were feeding me crab legs and not hot dogs after the game! Coach Derrick Sutherland and staff finished yet again, another undefeated regular season. Something we as a league should definitely tip our hats to.

10U

I can honestly say the game featuring the undefeated Carol City Chiefs and the Bulls was one of the best I’ve watched in pouring rain! What a way for Coach Butter and his staff to end a perfect season where they have defeated the Mask Off Boys, Suicide 2.0 and Franchise Boys yesterday in the rain as Butter tapped into his inner Aj Smith throwing the ball 60% of the time during the second half to end his season at 10-0!

11U
The Miami Gardens Ravens are undefeated.  Old Scott Lake Vikings would chastise current Vikings as the Purple Machine totally dismantled SLV’s 11U in a 44-0 lopsided victory. I’m going to be completely honest, we all knew the Ravens 11U would be good but this team has averaged close to 40 points against the top teams at the age division while holding all of them scoreless. Purple Perfection is what I would call it!

Miami Gardens Ravens 11U, Purple Machine

12U
If it were a team that came close to the Purple Machine’s dominance it would truly have to be the Ft Lauderdale Hurricanes 12U! With their convincing victory over the Bucs, Torrence and the crew have outscored top ranked opponents 40-0 in the first half of their games. The Canes, just as Bruce and Butter, have defeated all the top teams at their age division to record a perfect 10-0 season! Proving Bama Bih is REAL!

13/14U
The North Dade Bulldogs aka FOREIGN Boys would have the week off but definitely deserve a shout out for their perfect season and new #1 13U team in the nation ranking!

This has been one of the best FYFL seasons yet. We should all be excited about what’s to come during the post season. Will someone knock Bruce off? Will the Chiefs 8U finally get over that hump which is Omar and the Rattlers? How will the Chiefs 11U game plan for their rematch with the Purple Machine? Will we see Chris and his Sniper Gang lose twice in one year to the same opponent? That’s all left to be seen in FYFL 2017 post season play!!!
