Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami continues to make their imprint in the South Florida Community under the helm of Head Coach Mark Richt.  At the 2018 Mark Richt Football Camp, schools from throughout South Florida gathered to participate in Offensive and Defensive Lineman Drills as well as a seven on seven tournament.  The two day event gives the University of Miami coaching staff a close look at some of the area talent. Southridge emerged as tournament champions defeating Hialeah 25-16 in the final Saturday.

“I felt like we played pretty well,” said four star defensive back and Miami target Tyrique Stevenson.  “It’s great to get the win out here with my teammates.”

Stevenson is currently recruited by the top schools in the nation and is expected to graduate in December.  He is aiming to make a decision then during the early signing period and likes his relationship with the Hurricane coaching staff.

“My relationship with them is great.  If I ever need to talk to any of them for any advice I can easily pick up the phone and talk to them.”

Stevenson is looking to narrow his college choice to a top five during the summer.

The Hurricanes offered two defensive lineman on another scorching day in South Florida.  Jason Munoz of St. Thomas Aquinas and Savion Collins of Southwest Miami.  Both were standouts in one on one drills and earned their offers on this day.  Collins was honored to receive his very first offer from The U.

“I’m just excited,” said Collins.  “I’m really happy to get things flowing.  My goal now is to just get better everyday.”

Miami is an ideal choice for Collins and his mother, but his father is a fan of the Seminoles and may want to persuade the young talent to take his talents to Tallahassee.

Others performing at a high level at today’s camp were Doral receiver Baron Grant and Hialeah defensive end Sha’mar Sparks.  Grant, the 2020 seven on seven receiver from South Florida Express, seem to catch every ball that came his way in heavy traffic.

While Sparks, the 2020 defender who stands at 6’3” 255 pounds, just overpowered his opponents in one on one drills.

Current Miami Hurricanes Jaquan Johnson, Shaquille Quarterman, DJ Ivey, Sheldrick Redwine and Brian Hightower participated as referees during the seven on seven matches.  Camp continues Sunday with new participants and other potential offers may be waiting.
