Football Hotbed Week 6 Florida High School Football Rankings

Despite the lack of marquee games last week, there is much movement in this week’s rankings.  Let’s welcome Trinity Christian (Jacksonville) to the top five.  They were able to grind out a win against previously 5th ranked Columbia (Lake City) 31-30.  The seven time state champion Conquerors stood tall on a two-point conversion to prevent the Tigers from the game winning score.

West Orange (Winter Park) pulled off the biggest upset of the weekend defeating Wekiva (Apopka) 30-29.  The Warriors rallied from 16 points down in the fourth to pull off the victory with a 22-yard field goal with 16 seconds left.

The count goes to 49-straight regular season games for Vero Beach as they defeat Centennial (Port St. Lucie) 20-15 in a district dogfight.  Offensive tackle Billie Laziman recovered a fumble in the end zone that would prove to be the game-winning score for the Fighting Indians.

Golden Gate (Naples) lost their first game of the season to district rival Baron Collier (Naples) 22-19 Friday.  The Cougars scored the go-ahead touchdown after recovering a fumble inside the Titan ten yard line.  Junior quarterback Jason Grimes hit senior Luke Hancock on a 9-yard slant to seal the win in the fourth quarter.

The Spartans of Southridge took down the 2017 district champs 27-16 at Tropical Park Friday night.  Miami Palmetto was bit by the injury bug in the second half as senior quarterback Cairiq Rackley and senior athlete Cornelius Nunn left the game with injuries.  Two defensive fumble recoveries for touchdowns for by juniors Naquon Fagan and Emmanuel Belgrave would prove to be the difference in the fourth quarter.

Top Performers

Marcus Crowley, RB, Trinity Christian (Jacksonville) – The Miami commit carried his team to victory.  His 33 carries for 266 yards proved just enough to defeat Columbia (Lake City) in Duval County.  He had touchdown runs of 5, 50 and 68 yards.

Jaylan Knighton, RB, Deerfield Beach – The young Oklahoma commit is fast and is as tough as nails.  The 2020 back ran for a school record 347 yards against Taravella (Coral Springs).

RJ Douriet, QB, Palm Beach Central – The 2020 quarterback passed for 222 yards and five touchdowns in one half of play against Boca Raton.

Thaddius Franklin, RB, Chaminade-Madonna – The do everything running back had another great night for the Lions versus Piper (Sunrise).  The sophomore ran for 167 yards and three touchdowns.

Jeremiah McClendon, S, Atlantic (Delray) – The 2021 safety had two pick sixes in a 55-0 rout of Spanish River (Boca). The interception returns for 53 and 55 yards.

Zach Bohannon, QB, American Heritage (Delray) – The 2020 quarterback went on the road to Pensacola Catholic to pass for 248 yards scored and four touchdowns.

Julian Calvez, QB, West Orange (Winter Garden) – The freshman quarterback was inserted into the game in the third quarter when starting QB Elijah Stimmell left the game with an injury.  Down 22-7, Calvez was able to lead his team passed one of the favorites in 8A with four scoring drives in the second half.
