Fastest 40 times And Other Top Performers At Hotbed’s High School Exposure Showcase

One of the metrics used to measure success or excellence for high school football players is the number of scholarship offers received.  However, diamonds in the rough can be found at various camps and combines where virtually unknown talent can showcase what they can do. The Football Hotbed National High School Exposure Showcase does just that.   The MVPs of the showcase are destined to gain offers in the upcoming months but what about the other players that also performed well? Here are some players that excelled at a high level on Day 2 of the exposure showcase.  

Fernando Mendoza, QB (2022), Belen Jesuit (Miami, FL) – The 6’3” 185-pound quarterback has the prototypical size at the position and is extremely accurate.  The young prospect has great touch with long and intermediate throws and was a big part of why the white team emerged victoriously at the showcase’s seven-on-seven tournament. 

Josh Guerin, WR (2022), Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, FL) – The improving wide receiver displayed that he can do more than just catch the ball on offense as he recorded two interceptions to my observation.  Guerin has a strong ability to locate and capture the ball in the air and will continue to get better.

Kelly Loiseau, RB (2020), Everglades (Miramar, FL) – The senior has breakaway speed as he got into open spaces with quick bursts.  He will be a threat coming out of the backfield catching the football as he often ran away from opposing defenders. 

Kevin Ross, WR (2020), Miramar – The speedy slot receiver caught the ball in a variety of ways at the exposure showcase and gets to the football by any means necessary.  Ross also made defensive plays at cornerback as his quickness can be used on both sides of the ball.  

Keyandre Lawrence, DB (2020) Hialeah, FL – Clearly one of the fastest players on the field was rarely beat all day in coverage.  The senior has good size at 6’0” 170 pounds and can develop to be an outstanding defensive back on the outside or in nickel coverage.  Lawrence caught the ball with consistency on offense as well.

Phillip Bangura, 2020 ATH, Gateway (Kissimmee, FL) – The versatile player can play any skill position on the field but enjoys playing running back the most.  As a receiver, he uses his body well to create space. Bangura finished second in the fastest man race to Council Allen and feels he can help Gateway to another playoff run.  This is Bangura’s second time attending the exposure showcase and feels he will continue to reap the benefits of attending.    

“I came out here for the experience,” said Bangura.  “College coaches reached out to me after last year. I’m just trying to get my name out there because I feel like I’m a D-1 player.” 

Tavaris Thomas, DB (2020), Armwood (Seffner, FL) – The strong defensive back was one of the best athletes on the field in my opinion.  Thomas was able to beat defenders down the field and was in on several pass break-ups. Could have easily won the defensive back MVP.

Winston Brown, WR (2021), Lake Nona (Orlando, FL) – The junior receiver has all the tools to make a big impact on the next level and plays a variety of different positions at his high school including safety and running back. He can serve as the featured offensive weapon on most high school teams in the state of Florida which is saying something.

“I feel like this is the best competition in the state,” said Brown of the competition at the showcase.  “It’s great to speak with the college coaches out here and see what they are looking for and also the fact that we can get our measurables to see where we are at is great.”

Brown is currently receiving interest from Charleston Southern and Mississippi State.  

Randy Ramanan, WR (2020), Flanagan (Pembroke Pines, FL) – The senior receiver can be used as a solid possession receiver on the next level.  At 6’2” 170 pounds, he is a large enough target to easily find and has enough quickness to get open.  

Robert Sheppard III, QB (2020), Palm Beach Lakes, FL – The senior PBL quarterback threw plenty of good balls on the day.  He has a nice zip on the ball and moves well outside of the pocket. He also displayed good pocket presence and quickly progresses through his reads.  He was also the fastest among quarterbacks with a 4.94 40 time.

Terrion Carnes, RB (2020), Palmetto, FL – Impressive athlete out of the Tampa Bay area.  In the seven-on-seven tournament, he caught the ball with efficiency and also made plays defensively. At 5’10” 168 pounds, Carnes says his ability to get small and hit holes separates him from other running backs.

“I got it in me to be a great running back,” said Carnes.  “I like this camp a lot. I like the coaches here. It’s just really organized.”
