Chaminade Madonna Gets 3rd Straight 3A Tile Behind Record Breaking Effort

TALLAHASSEE- Hollywood, Florida’s Chaminade Madonna notched their third consecutive state championship win Friday night beating Florida High of Tallahassee 35-20.  Junior running back Thaddeus Franklin paced the Lions with a state championship record breaking performance of 333 yards rushing on 47 carries for five touchdowns.  That record had stood for 23 years prior to Friday night.

Franklin, the University of Miami commit was virtually unstoppable all game long, accounting for all but 79 yards of total offense for Chaminade, who made their fourth consecutive state championship appearance.

Head coach Dameon Jones was thankful after the game expressing his happiness for his coaching staff for all the hard work they had put in to accomplish the championship run.  Jones, has now reached legendary status as a head football coach in the state of Florida. He’s been in the state championship each of the past four years and won three of them.  His pupils from his days at Hallandale Beach, Tyler Huntley, Zach Moss and Demari Simpkins are at Utah having a championship season on their way to the NFL and his new home at Chaminade, a program he took the reigns of just a few days before fall practice in 2016, is a national power.

And his most popular player, Sean Shivers, was on hand to witness the victory. Fresh off his amazing run against Alabama to give the Auburn Tigers the victory.

Chaminade was led defensively by Jamaal Johnson with nine tackles.  As Florida High, led by Willie Taggart, II, made a late surge, it was Charles Williams’ two game sealing interceptions that closed the door for the Lions and made way for them to be crowned state champions.

FINAL STATS

There was a very specaial alum for the Chaminade Madonna Lions that led them out onto the field. He had recently had a huge win and played a big part in it on the college level.
