National High School Sophomore Showcase Practice Report

Posted in:

Powder Springs, GA — The Hotbed Showcase Class of 2022 is littered with athletes who have impact the game on both sides of the ball. Keep an eye on several of these standouts as they refine their technique at multiple positions.

Sophomore Showcase practice standouts:

QB Fernando Mendoza, Miami (FL) Columbus High School: Mendoza has an incredibly strong arm and an undeniable pocket presence that was evident in practice. Listed at 6’4, Mendoza already looks like a Division 1 prospect and he still has two more years of high school remaining for the defending state champion Explorers.

QB Robbie Roper, Canton (GA) Kell High School: Roper has proven to be the ultimate competitor. Hotbed coaches say he’s established himself as a leader among leaders in the past three days of practice with his command of the playbook.

ATH Larry Blevins III, Marietta (GA) High School: Blevins earned his way on the field for a star-studded Marietta High defense that included Hotbed alum and University of Florida signee Rashad Torrence II. Blevins earned plenty of reps at running back and linebacker this weekend and showed why he was force to be reckoned with at Marietta.

RB Michael Barnes, Coconut Creek (FL) High School: A backup running back on an uber talented Coconut Creek squad, Barnes is using this Hotbed experience to catapult himself to a starting role in 2020.

WR/DB Avari Marshall, Miami (FL) Goleman High School: Marshall doesn’t hail from a big-name football program in South Florida but he’s made Hotbed coaches pay attention with his elite speed and ability to make big plays on both sides of the ball.

The Tallahassee (FL) Godby trio of C Chauncey Kamakea Jr., OL Jaquan Samuel and OL Daughtry Richardson: Football games are won and lost in the trenches so good luck to any lineman that has to face this trio in North Florida next season. Hotbed coaches gushed when mentioning the physical play of these talented 10th graders in position and team drills.

LB Wesley Bessinithe, Miami (FL) Central: Another teenager grader in a grown man’s body, Bessinithe made his mark this weekend as a linebacker who can make plays from sideline to sideline.
