Recruiting News: Mid-Season Report

Recruiting provides hope. Hope, that your favorite team has a promise for the future.  For many high school football players across the country, committing to college is the biggest decision of a teenagers’ life.  One of the most dangerous edge rushers from South Florida committed to one of the most prominent football programs in the nation this week.

Ohio State received a pledge from four-star defensive end, Kenyatta Jackson from Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, FL).  Jackson, known as “K2,” said the following were some factors that made his decision an easy one.

“The relationship with the coaches, the history behind the school and my family likes them, my family loves them actually.”

After Jackson’s two-sack performance against state title contender Miami Gulliver, Kenyatta (6-5, 235) was ready to end the recruiting process.

“I think it’s time to get it over with,” said K2.  “And I think my decision is the best decision for me.”

Jackson chose the Buckeyes over the Oklahoma Sooners and the Alabama Crimson Tide.  At Friday night’s game, K2 had Ohio State and Oklahoma logos both on the back of his helmet.

“Well, I was trying to get all three,” said Jackson.  “It’s really a top two.”

Jackson, at one point in the recruiting process was seriously interested in Miami. K2 had this to say about the Hurricanes pursuit of him:

“They just stop communicating, they just stop hitting my phone,” Jackson said of Miami.  “And I just took that as they don’t want to recruit me no more.”

The Buckeyes are also in the mix for another outstanding 2022 South Florida defensive end in Marvin Jones, Jr. (6-5, 235) from American Heritage Plantation

The Florida State legacy will visit Ohio State on October 30th, Alabama on November 6th, and FSU on November 13th.  Ohio State has been one of his top schools since early 2021.  Ohio State previously recruited the Bosa brothers (Nick and Joey) out of South Florida’s St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Nick was drafted 2nd overall while Joey went 3rd overall in the NFL draft.

Jones visited Oklahoma at the tail end of September and had a positive experience.  This is what Jones had to say about visiting Miami:

“I can always get down there so it’s not important for me to make an official visit.”

Miami legacy Earl Little Jr. is considered one of the best 2022 cornerbacks in the entire country yet the Hurricanes don’t come close to making his top schools.

Little, of American Heritage, says he is not disappointed about Miami not making his top school list.

“I’m enjoying my process,” said Little.  “It’s about who I want to go to. I don’t feel any pressure.”

Little plans to visit Alabama and Florida with LSU and Oregon also as possible visit destinations.  Little visited Florida State this season and enjoyed his experience. Bama remains the top one.

Miami is however in the mix for 2023 American Heritage running back Mark Fletcher.  The big (6-1, 225) running back named Alabama, Virginia Tech, and the Hurricanes as schools giving him the most attention after the Cardinal Gibbons game.

Miami seems still to also be actively recruiting Mike Jackson, wide receiver, from Miami Palmetto.  Arguably the fastest player in South Florida says he’s planning to visit Miami and others.

Jackson plans to visit Appalachian State on October 30th.

Jackson’s teammate Jai-Ayviauynn Celestine said recruiting is still slow for the 2022 athlete, but Coastal Carolina and Florida State maintain contact with the dynamic two-way player.
