Elite Quarterback Jaden Rashada Commits To Miami Over SEC Schools

When four-star quarterback Jaden Rashada (Pittsburg, CA) delayed his commitment last week, there was speculation as to why.

Today we got our answer.

Today the northern California-native made his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes, days after taking his final official visit to Coral Gables last week.  He chose the Hurricanes over Florida, LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M.

“Miami just felt like home when I went there the second time,” said Rashada just after his announcement.  “Miami just has a California vibe.”

Rashada explained that other northern California natives have had success at Miami. Gino Torretta won the Heisman in 1992 and Ken Dorsey was finalist in both 2001 and 2002

“There’s two quarterbacks that made a national run, heisman run up there from northern California that went to Miami I know that played a pretty big role knowing that it’s been done before and you could be next to do it.”

The 2023 signal-caller took his visit with fellow four-star prospects: offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa (IMG Academy, FL), offensive tackle Payton Kirkland (Dr. Phillips, FL), and athlete Robert Stafford (Eau Gallie, FL).

“Once they step foot in Coral Gables they realize how special Coral Gables is. They realize how special Miami is,” said Head Coach Mario Cristobal at Legends Camp.

Rashada played with seven-on-seven team Miami Immortals this offseason and developed chemistry with four-star wide receiver and Miami commit Robbie Washington.  Washington has been to Miami’s campus six times and did all he could to get Rashada’s commitment.

“I feel it’s my responsibility to recruit people for the class,” said Washington at the OT7 tournament.  “I’ve been trying to get that boy Jaden Rashada there because he can throw it.”

He also developed a relationship with Miami target and four-star Jalen Brown.

Rashada is expected to compete in the national quarterback competition, The Elite 11 next week in Los Angeles.  He will compete alongside Miami commit Emory Williams (Milton, FL).  Williams made his pledge to the Hurricanes last week.  Rashada will also compete in all three major all-star games: Under Armour All-American Game, All-American Bowl, and the Polynesian Bowl.

Scouting Report

His frame is (6-4, 185) ideal to build upon at a power five program.  He will need to add weight to help with his durability.  He is a pro-style passer who can move to avoid pressure, but is not a quarterback that generally makes plays with his legs.  He has a smooth throwing motion and is able to locate open receivers if he has time in the pocket.  Rashada has excellent ball placement with all types of throws (short, intermediate, and long).  He has the potential to be a first or second round draft pick.

What This Means For The Hurricanes

It is somewhat rare to take two quarterbacks in a single class, so it will be interesting to see what the Hurricanes do as far as roster adjustments if both commitments stick.  The two commitments will make it a total of four quarterbacks on the roster for the 2023 season assuming Tyler Van Dyke leaves for the NFL after this season.  Redshirting one quarterback of course is an option, that leaves room for another position of need for the 2024 class.
