Boca Raton, FL– The Florida Atlantic Owls hosted Southeastern Louisiana Lions on a humid night in South Florida. In front of a crowd of 17,000 fans. Coming off a tough loss against Ohio Bobcats last week. The Owls would look to rebound in a major way. And in a major way, they did with a 42-9 victory over The SELU Lions.
After a weather delay of 1 hour and 30 min, the game finally got underway. The Owls would start a promising drive down the field, then QB N’Kosi Perry throws his first interception of the season, giving the ball to the Lions in their half. The Owls’ defense would work quickly to get the ball back to their high-powered offense, after forcing the Lions to punt for a 2nd straight drive. The ensuing drive would get started with a career-high 58 yd run by RB Larry McCammon III to put the Owls in the red zone. QB N’Kosi Perry would waste no time finding RB Zuberi Mobley out the backfield for an 18 yd touchdown strike, to give the Owls the first point of the game. A successful FG make from Kicker Morgan Suarez would make the game 7-0 in the 1st with 7:53 to go. After Fau’s defense managed the hold the opposition to just 11 yds in the 1st qtr and 3 straight punting drives; the Owls offense would be unable to capitalize on the chances it was receiving.
That would change at the start of the 2nd qtr. The Owls offense would go on a 5-play 80 yd drive, capped off by QB N’Kosi Perry finding WR LaJohntay Wester for a 36 yd touchdown pass with 11:40 to go in the 2nd qtr to give the Owls a 14-0 lead. The SLU Lions would put together an impressive drive, driving the Owls dense back into their red zone. The Owls defense would hold strong to only allow a 19 yd FG by kicker Dom Strapigila, making the score 14-3 with 8:41 to go until half. For the rest of the 1st half, Fau would lead the dance. After QB N’Kosi Perry find WR Javion Posey for a 26 yd pass to get the Owls within striking distance, the QB would run it in himself from the 2 yd line with 4:23 left in the half to give the Owls a 21-3 lead. RB Larry McCammon would add another rushing TD at the buzzer to give the Owls a 28-3 lead going into the half. Both sides of the ball shined through the first half with the defense allowing one scoring drive and the offense accumulating 364 total yards behind RB Larry McCammon III 113 rushing yds and 1 TD.
Coming into the second half, the Lions would look to bounce back but the Owls were having none of it. Just like the first half, the Owls defense left the Lions offense no room for error, causing punt after punt. SELU would make a QB change mid-way through the 3rd to QB Eli Sawyer. The results would be the same. The Owls would add to their lead with a 7-play 65 yd drive, capped off with RB Zuberi Mobley 4 yd rush TD. The Owls would lead at the end of the 3rd qtr with a comfortable lead 35-3. The Owls offense would add another for the icing oil the cake when QB N’Kosi Perry finds WR LaJohntay Wester for a 42 yd TD pass. The Lions would manage to score one more time to end the game 42-9 with the Owls winning.
The Owls would have career highs from both their running backs. RB Larry McCammon III (125 rushing yds on 15 attempts) and RB Zuberi Mobley (146 rushing yds on 20 attempts). WR LaJohntay Wester would also surpass his previous career high of 126 receiving yards. He would have 140 yds and 2 TDs. The FAU Owls will look to continue the winning when they face a tough foe next week in the UCF Knights.

When Coach Taggart was asked about the rushing attack, he had nothing but high remarks for his running backs and O line. He said, “We want to be able to run the ball, we felt coming into the game with our experience offense line we felt we could move them and run the ball as well.” Coach Taggart also spoke about how the Owls defense was able to hold the Lions to 44 rushing yards.
