UCF Pulls away in 2nd half due to stellar offense.

Boca Raton, Florida – The FAU Owls hosted the UCF Knights on a murky night in Boca Raton. The Owls coming off a dominant win against SELU looked to continue their winning against the Knights; who they have not had much luck against.

The Owls would open the game with a bang. Driving down the field in 6 plays 87 yards, the Owls would find the end-zone, thanks to Zuberi Mobley 15 yd rush to give Fau an early lead of 7-0 with 13:00 min left of the 1st quarter. The Owls’ defense Marlon Krakue, would force a fumble to get their offense the ball back. FAU would be unable to capitalize on the opportunity. The Knights would go on to tie the game at 7-7 with a 7 yd run by QB John Rhys Plumlee in the 1st. Once again FAU would show its ability to score the ball. The Owls more known for their high-powered offense, would go on a long 12-play drive, capped off by a 4-yard pass to LaJohntay Wester. The Owls would take a 14-7 lead with .8 sec left in the 1st qtr.

Both teams’ offenses at this time have been able to move the ball but at the start of the 2nd, The Knights’ offense would drive the length of the field but only get 3 points. Kicker Bummer, Colton would concert a 41-yard FG attempt to bring the score 14-10 with 12:10 left in the 2nd. The Knights’ offense would continue to roll. QB John Rhys, would cap off a 6 – play 86 yd drive; with a 5 yd TD run to give the UCF Knights their first lead of the night at 16-14 in the 2nd quarter.

The Owls offense would go stale in for the remainder of the 2nd quarter with 2 punts and a fumble. The Knights would not be able to capitalize on the FAU offense not moving. The 2nd quarter would end with UCF in the lead with a 16-14 score.

The 2nd half offers little promise for the Owls. UCF’s offense would continue to be in rhythm. The Knight would have 2 rushing touchdowns from RB Isiah Bowser and RB RJ Harvey. The Knights would lead 30-14 with 2:24 left in the 3rd. QB N’Kosi Perry would continue to struggle with getting in rhythm. Through the first 3 quarters, he would not be hit very often but would go 10 – for – 21 with 84 yards passing.

This is an uncommon characteristic for QB N’Kosi Perry through the first 3 games. He has been firing on all cylinders The Knight defense has caused serious problems.

The UCF Knight would be in cruise control the whole 4th quarter. The Owls’ defense could not stop the onslaught coming from UCF QB John Rhys Plumlee. He would go on to finish the game with 460 total yards and 3 TDs and receive player of the game honors. The UCF Knight would eventually close out the game 40-14 with a commanding second-half performance.

The Owls will look to implement their “SoWhat, Now What” mantra when they travel to Purdue for another tough matchup.
