FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Chaminade-Madonna left little doubt Thursday night.
The Lions delivered a dominant performance on the road, defeating Cardinal Gibbons 41-6 in a matchup of two of Broward County’s most established high school football programs.
The victory moves Chaminade-Madonna to 7-2 on the season and gives the Lions their third consecutive win as they continue building momentum toward the postseason.
Cardinal Gibbons entered the matchup playing some of its best football of the season. The Chiefs had won four consecutive games after a 2-2 start and had scored at least 40 points in each game during the winning streak.
That offensive momentum came to an abrupt stop against Chaminade-Madonna.
The Lions controlled the matchup and held a Gibbons offense that had been piling up points to just one touchdown. Meanwhile, Chaminade-Madonna continued its own recent offensive surge by putting 41 points on the board.
It was another impressive defensive performance for a Lions team that has been difficult to score against during the second half of the season.
Chaminade-Madonna entered Thursday having allowed only 19 combined points in its previous two games, beating Cardinal Newman 20-7 before defeating McArthur 47-12. The Lions carried that defensive form into Fort Lauderdale and kept the Chiefs from turning the game into the high-scoring matchup their recent performances suggested was possible.
The result was especially significant considering what Gibbons had done leading into the game. The Chiefs had ripped off four consecutive victories and entered Thursday with a 6-2 record, setting up what appeared on paper to be one of the more intriguing late-season matchups in South Florida.
Instead, Chaminade-Madonna turned it into a statement.
The Lions have now won three straight since their narrow 21-20 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas earlier this month. With the postseason approaching, Chaminade-Madonna continues to look like a program capable of making another significant run when the games matter most.
Thursday’s result also continued Chaminade-Madonna’s recent dominance in the series. The Lions defeated Cardinal Gibbons 47-0 in 2025, meaning Chaminade has outscored the Chiefs 89-6 over the last two meetings.
For Cardinal Gibbons, the loss drops the Chiefs to 6-3 and ends their four-game winning streak.
Chaminade-Madonna will now turn its attention to Coconut Creek on Oct. 30, while Cardinal Gibbons is scheduled to face Piper that same night.
For the Lions, however, Thursday night was about making another statement before the postseason:
Chaminade-Madonna 41. Cardinal Gibbons 6.
